3D printed exclusive joints

After building so many wheelchair costumes and using 3/4″ PVC pipes for most of our frames, we’ve discovered that there are times when you need a joint that doesn’t exist. That’s when we break out CAD and design our own exclusive joints to help build these frames. Check out the joints we’ve designed and what we used them for. *(NOTE: We recommend printing them at 100% fill so they are strong enough.)*

Can't find the right PVC joint?

Parallel Through

This joint can connect to any straight vertical bar on the wheelchair. Zip tie it to the bar with the 3 premade trenches. Then a 3/4" PVC pipe can slide all the way through on the other side. This allows for additional support in locking down the frame of the costume to the frame of the wheelchair.

Parallel Through Capped

This joint can connect to any straight vertical bar on the wheelchair. Zip tie it to the bar with the 3 premade trenches. Then slide a 3/4" PVC pipe in front down to the capped off bottom of the joint.

Parallel Capped

Similar to the "Parallel Through Capped" joint, this is used in the same manner, but doesn't surround the PVC pipe and instead lets it sit on a shelf. The PVC pipe can still be secured with zip ties.

Narrow Saddle Joint

This joint can serve as a pivot point by attaching onto a PVC pipe side. It is very narrow and can fit into small sections of PVC pipe. Then slide a PVC pipe into the top and glue to lock it in place. *(NOTE: These work best printed in flexible TPU filament.)*

Saddle Tee

These Saddle Tees are thicker to prevent them from cracking while attached to a PVC pipe or the wheelchair frame. These work best when printed in TPU filament so it can be slightly flexible to snap around pipes, especially the wheelchair frame.

Angled Attachment Joint

Many wheelchairs have a tapered front that makes it difficult to attach a costume at the right angle. This 20 degree attachment joint allows it to attach to the tapered front, and still allow the PVC frame to slide in straight up and down.

Caster Wheel Attachment Joint

Generic
While this is most commonly used for caster wheel attachments, it could be used for other things too. This is if you need to attach the end of a PVC pipe to a flat surface such as a piece of wood. It has four screw holes for base and two screw holes to secure the PVC pipe into it.

Caster Wheel Attachment Joint

Version 1: Swivel Caster #69847
These custom designed joints were specifically designed to fit a particular caster wheel. That way, it screwed directly onto the actual caster wheel and didn't require any wood between the two. There are 2 versions of this joint. V1 is sturdier, with straight sides and is stronger. V2 is rounded, still sturdy, but takes less 3D printer filament. Both work great and we don't recommend one over the other. *(NOTE: The bolts used to attach these together are 1/4 20 pan head bolts.)*
